Word Origin & Etymology
The plant is called 'Japanese' because Western botanists first recorded it being widely cultivated in Japan, although the primary parent species (Anemone hupehensis) is originally native to China. 'Anemone' derives from the Greek 'anemōnē', meaning 'daughter of the wind'.
